snow day

i know most bloggers have been lucky enough to see some snow this winter - lucky enough that they're probably sick of snow - but i've still been waiting on it. the winter here in southern virginia has been a mild one; so mild in fact, the weather doesn't even warrant a coat most days, and when it has, it's been followed up by days warm enough for short sleeves or skirts with no tights. but yesterday, friends, my luck changed... WE GOT SNOW!!!

it was snowing yesterday before we even ate breakfast, and continue to snow, pretty heavily, all day, but it wasn't until late afternoon that it finally became cold enough for the snow to stick. once it did start sticking, it went from a dusting to a couple inches in absolutely no time! chris, kona and i took a walk for several hours in the snow, and it was just beautiful! it was also neat to be out in the snow where we could watch just how quickly the accumulation was adding up.

we live on a farm which means lots of land, lots of "toys" and no neighbors, i.e. lots of space to play. chris likes doing donuts in the golf cart, and we both like tying a rope to the back of a 4-wheeler, so one can drive, and the other can be pulled down the road and through the fields on a sled until a wipeout, which means we trade places!

since it's supposed to get into the mid-40's today, i'm going to take kona out for another long walk because loves snow just as much as i do! on that note, does your dog get completely nuts when it snows out? kona acts like a maniac, and it's hilarious!

beca dressed me today: an outfit post

today i wore a christmas present from one of my very favorite people in life. she says i was supposed to wait and until christmas to wear it, so let's just look at it, then forget we saw it, and we can pretend like i haven't worn it yet and then i'll wear it again.

coat: forever 21, scarf: i don't remember, dress: gift from beca via vacation vintage, tights: target, boots: target, giggle juice: c/o chris, vintage brooches: gift & my granny maude's, earrings: dinosaur toes

i also should have mentioned that the hair, uhhh, style (?) is courtesy of the wind. it's whipping around worse out there than when my mom used to get the spatula out after my brother and i (rim shot). i went to the dreaded mall today to get a few last chritmas presents, and when i came out someone from the salvation army was by the door ringing the bell, so i pulled out a few dollars to give, and as i was putting it in the bucket she said, "i love your outfit!" it may have been a compliment in response to my giving money, but i'm just going to think that it was because of THIS AWESOME DRESS! i was so surprised when it came in the mail i squealed like a little girl!

have you gotten any early christmas presents yet? if so, what?

my one dollar sweater.

because of the "blizzard" (the news people make it a huge deal and cause utter chaos at the grocery store) i didn't have to go into the office yesterday, meaning i only had to go in once this week! when i talked to my boss this morning, she said today would be a jeans day; color me happy, i love my jeans. i knew i would wear my boots with all the snow and ice on the ground, and i also figured i'd wear a sweater since it's so cold. enter my new one dollar sweater. when micaela and i went on our thrifting date saturday, we got lucky and discovered they were having a tag sale complete with racks of vintage clothes. as soon as i saw this sweater, i knew i would make it mine, and i wore it for the first time today. it's a new favorite!

coat: forever 21, sweater: vintage, jeans: tj maxx, boots: mossimo/target, necklace: bueno bueno

i know i've said this before, but i feel so weird taking pictures of myself. i always get this weird look and my eyebrow goes up and i don't even realize i'm doing it. but the point is, you're supposed to be looking at my outfit, not my weird faces!

do you watch dexter? chris and i watch it online and tonight we're getting caught up on the newest season. it's so addictive. and i'm always behind in celebrity love news, but micaela told me saturday that the woman who plays deb is married to michael c. hall (which i didn't know), then on tuesday, i saw on tv that they were splitting up! how did i not know all this time that they were together?!?

what have you been wearing lately?

what i wear when it's 13 degrees outside.

okay, so in all fairness, 13 degrees wasn't the high, nor was it 13 degrees when i left the house this morning, but 13 degrees is still cold, and that was the temperature when i got up this morning. it was in the mid 20's when i left, and the high today is somewhere in the 30's, so the point is: i had to dress warm! remember the last wishlist wednesday post i did with the vintage fur collars? well, guess what friends, i got one! it smells like an old lady (from an old lady), and febreeze (from me), but i still love it. yep, $2.99 on ebay for a vintage faux fur collar. i'd say it's a deal. so of course you can guess what i wore today...

faux fur collar: ebay, coat: forever 21, dress: old navy, leggings: forever 21, shoes: some off brand.

oh, and that last picture is what happens to my hair when i wear it in a bun. i think it's too long and too heavy to just use one extra big hair pin, but i really don't feel like taking the time to pin a dozen of those things in, because it means i have to take that much time pulling them out. yes, i am lazy when it comes to hair (don't hate me, brandi).

i got that coat last november in san francisco. it was really nice, even kind of hot, during the day, but once the sun started to go down, my sweater just wasn't enough, so i stopped in forever 21 to get that real quick before we got on the cable car. i'd say it was my favorite purchase, because it's the only coat i've worn since then! the shoes i love. love love. you know how there are things that you can't decide whether they're ugly or cute? such is the case with these shoes. i've pulled them out of my closet for some wear time, and the more i look at them, the more i'm thinking that i love how they're a combination of oxford and bootie. they're some off brand that i got a while back for $5 or $6, so if i don't wear them too often, at least i don't have to feel guilty for spending much money on them!

what are you wearing now that the weather has gotten cooler?

i'm ready for snow.

earlier this year we had one of the biggest snow storms i've ever seen in virginia, and while everyone else hated it, i hoped the 2 or more feet of snow would never melt! it's definitely not cold enough for snow yet, although it's no longer warm, but i'm hoping we'll see a repeat of last winter! when it does get cold, whether we have a blizzard or not, i'm ready for it with this super cozy wrap/scarf...

kyla from kove and i did a trade recently, and this wrap is what she made from me. i've looked at cowls before on etsy, but i've always been hesitant to buy one because i never knew if the yarn would be soft and cozy or scratchy and irritating. i'm happy to say that the wool/acrylic blend that kyla uses is so comfortable it'll make you feel like you're wrapped in a cloud. i'd even like an entire bedspread crocheted from this yarn! i wanted to show you a picture of what it looks like on, but i haven't gotten out of my pajamas today, and if i'm being completely honest, i probably won't.

unfortunately i had to work on black friday and miss out on the shopping craziness (which i would never attempt on my own, but love when i go with someone else), and i had to hold off on doing a few other things around the house until saturday. something i couldn't WAIT to do was decorate my "christmas tree." the tree i decorated isn't actually a christmas tree at all, but some sort of indoor evergreen that my grandma gave me recently. i figured since it's in my living room anyway, i should decorate it instead of pulling out my little artificial tree. so, i give you the before (with a glass bird the i keep in it), and the after...

the ornaments i use are a combination of antique glass ornaments that my great grandma gave me when i got married, and some antique glass and glitter ornaments that i got for $2 at a thrift store the other year. have you put your tree up yet? do you have a style or theme when decorating your tree? have any pictures of it?

wishlist wednesday!

Today's wish list is all about warmth seeing as how today's high in Lynchburg, VA was a warm 36 degrees. Chilly! I like spring weather the best as I prefer sandals, but I can't turn down a good scarf!

i wanted it, and i got it

You remember a few posts back when I said that I wanted snow? I got it, and I got it big time! Late yesterday afternoon, what my friend Jeff now refers to as, "The Big Dump," started. By the time we woke up this morning we had about a foot or more of beautiful snow!

I bundled up and headed out to play, but I couldn't find the nice, waterproof wellies, so I had to wear my snowboarding boots which are too big and super stiff. The 12+ inches of snow, plus my stiff boots, plus my short legs, combined with little physical strength made for one heck of a workout! I don't see a treadmill in my future today as my legs did enough fat burning already!

It was so pretty, and the little snowbirds were so cute running on top of the snow. Cheesecake, the fat lab loves snow, and his favorite activity is putting his mouth down to the ground and running, so he shovels lots of snow in his mouth to eat! After I warm up a little and make some lunch, it's back out to play...I mean workout!

i'm dreaming of a white anything

Living in southern Virginia, it isn't that often that we see much snow, and certainly not snow that sticks, but I'm holding out hope! This year hasn't been quite as warm, and we've had a lot more rain than usual... maybe I'm grabbing at straws or talking myself into this winter frenzy, but I can't help thinking we may see some beautiful white flakes this year!

snow day...finally

Last night about an hour before I went to bed, I looked outside, and to my great surprise, there was a light dusting of snow, and more was falling! This morning was even more exciting when I awoke to more than a dusting, but an actual accumulation! Being a kid at heart when it comes to snow, the first thing I did was put on my shoes and coat so I could go walking in my beautiful winter wonderland! And of course I took some pictures since it may be a while before I see snow again.
