good morning!  i wouldn't normally do more than one outfit post in the same week with the same dress, but when i showed you this dress on monday, i didn't get to show you the best part of it - the details!  it was hot like an armpit when i wore it sans sweater, which means the best part wasn't covered up...

i love that there are buttons up the back, but my favorite things about this dress is that there are pockets (why don't more dresses have pockets?), and that the top half and over the shoulders is sheer; so pretty.

moving on, i have good news, at least for me!  my toes are no longer broken, and my leg is healed up (running injury) which means I'M ABLE TO RUN AGAIN!!!  i'm so excited about it that i want to run every single day!  it's hard to tell myself to take it slow and not run too often because that runner's high is addictive, but i'm going to be smart about it...i think.

the day my life was put on hold: an outfit post

after a lack of blogging, i'm back. one of the world's greatest evils, malware, downloaded what can only be described as the worst VD of the internet onto my laptop, completely took over and made this machine its bitch. since then i feel like i've been almost completely lost as far as blogs go (and if you've noticed i haven't commented, it doesn't mean i don't think you're awesome, it means i was crying in a corner thinking of all i was missing), including mine. i always notice when i skip several days or even a week of blogging, i will always, without a doubt lose followers. i had the "yes you should/no you shouldn't" battle in my head this morning about posting today or any day, because i'll be honest, when people are fickle, for whatever reason, i take it personally. there, i said it. BUT, i decided that i was going to be honest with myself, i can't go without the interactions i have with you guys, even though i don't really know you, and that alone makes me keep on blogging, quality posts or not!

about this outfit: this was one of those outfits you kind of throw together when you really don't have time to think about what you're wearing, and even if you did, you don't really want to think about what you're wearing. i like the way it came together (even though hiding my waist with that jacket makes my hips look 8 feet wide), so maybe i should try it more often, but, you know, have a backup outfit planned just in case.

also, chris pretty much threatened my life if i posted this picture of him, but i think humor is more important than safety, don't you? sometimes he likes to pick on me when it comes time for pictures, so while i walked away for a second, he got in front of the camera with my bag and said, "ooohhh, looks, it matches my shirt." that can't not be shared.

"when are you going to post the pictures of me paddling you?"

since i don't always post pictures of what i wore in chronological order, rather in order of preference, i sometimes get a backlog of pictures. last sunday i wanted to be sure to take pictures so that i could show you one of the pretty headbands that rebecca from manzanita sent me, and since chris likes to mess with me during the picture taking process, this sort of turned goofy...

i feel like my animal babies are always in the pictures with me, and i hope you're not tired of seeing them, but if flojo isn't with me she screams at me the entire time i'm trying to get these picture taken, and kona always walks in mid-picture to be rubbed. so there you have it, demanding animals.

after those pictures is when it started to get silly. since the whole family was in the living room, we figured, "hey, why not have an awkward family photo?" once that was finished, it seemed only natural for chris to throw me over his shoulder and smack my butt while kona barked at him.

ever since we took those pictures chris has been asking me when i'd post them, so this is for him! i feel lucky to have a husband that reads and is interested in my blog and also knows how important it is to me. awww, makes me feel so in love.

the never-ending hot flash: an outfit post

if i've learned one thing in my life it's that you can trust a meteorologist's forecast as much as you can trust a politician's campaign promises. a prediction of highs in the low 60's, which influenced my decision to wear this lightweight sweater, actually ended up being a high of 81. so you can imagine that last friday when i wore this felt like a never-ending hot flash. oh, those meteorologists; why do i still listen when i know it's a fool's game?

i really liked this outfit because: i get to wear boots, it incorporates my favorite skirt, and i love a space dyed sweater. i'm definitely wearing this again, but i'm going to stand outside for a while before i get dressed so i can decide for myself what they temperature will be!

one skirt, endless possibilities: an outfit post

hi friends, i hope you're having a good monday following an enjoyable weekend! i bought this skirt about a month or so ago from ebay (i was searching for the pleated gold lamé skirt from forever 21 but found this instead) and i love it for several reasons: a pencil skirt can't be beat, with another skirt or with a lead pipe; i think it acts almost as a neutral so it can be paired with solids or patterns and still look nice; i dressed it up and down and liked it both ways; and finally, i love gooooold.

i have a few things to say about this outfit. #1 i'm capable of standing upright and do that in day to day life, but can't seem to get the hang of it for pictures, which i realize adds bulk especially when wearing a flowy blouse, and it's just not flattering. #2 flojo is attracted to ALL things gold and LOVES this skirt; if she sees it, it pulls her in like a magnet and she can't stay away. #3 the ring i'm wearing is one my grandma wore years and years and decades and decades ago, and it's my favorite.

so how was your weekend? mine was really nice; on saturday chris and i, along with his aunts and uncles, met at his late grandparents' house to clean out the remainder of their things, and i came home with two projects i'm pretty excited about. one is an old, old chair that was covered in the ugliest, scratchiest fabric known to man, and the other is a semi-ugly vintage lamp. both are getting makeovers, and i can't wait to share the before and after pics! on sunday we didn't have much to do, which was nice, so we went to pier 1 (which i lovingly think of as the affordable version of anthropologie) and i made a birthday list no shorter than 3.81 miles long. we also ate japanese for lunch, and that's always good.

my chewbacca: an outfit post

you know how there are times when you see something that's, uh, unusual, and you have to ask yourself, "is it different or ugly in a good way, or different and repulsive in a bad way?" such is the case with my chewbacca sweater. it may repulse, and that might be why i found it away from its previous owner at a thrift store, but i wear that fur ball with pride!

i should have taken a closer picture of the sweater so you could see it in all its fuzzy glory, but you'll just have to take my word on this one: it's awesome.

my dear husband enjoys a good laugh while making faces during these pictures, or by suddenly screaming to see how much he can scare me. so i played along, and luckily i had a clear nose that day, otherwise i would've had a little something for him...

sometimes you must admit defeat: an outfit mistake

i pick my clothes out at night so that it's one less thing to worry about in the morning, but come a new day, my taste may have changed completely. i'm not above laughing at myself, and i've learned that if your outfit...

-makes your legs look jaundiced
-makes you look like you're concealing a secret pregnancy
-makes people think you're elton john
-makes you look like you're wearing a tent fit for a southwest circus

..it's a good time to admit defeat.

i like each part of this outfit individually, but together? it looks like colors and patterns threw up on me. next time i wear this dress i'll be sure to do it without tights and with a simple pair of tan leather wedge sandals (which means i won't wear it again until april). also, i don't actually wear those glasses in public! they were a funny gift from auntie amy brought back from her recent trip to hong kong.

lines, lines, lines: an outfit post

as time goes on i find myself more and more obsessed with stripes; so much so that i could compare my love of stripes to my love of birds, murphy oil soap, fleece sheets, and bagels with nutella. it's pretty serious. i have several striped shirts that are on almost constant rotation and the good news is: they were all thrifted for just a few dollars!

i may have hated geometry and drawing dumb lines on graphs in school, but clearly i can appreciate lines now. and i imagine if i would have been given dozens of numbers that drew a line and told to add them to a shirt rather than a graph on a calculator, i would have enjoyed math a lot more in school.

how was your weekend? mine was great! i scrubbed nearly every surface of my house with my beloved murphy oil soap, ran, rearranged and redecorated a few things in my house, went to a new chinese restaurant (which, coincidentally had the best sushi i've ever eaten), played with ducks, and scrubbed some more.

head over heels: an outfit post

as soon as i typed "head over heels" as the title, i figured you may think i fell hard today. surprisingly i didn't, but if you knew me in real life, you'd know that i'm clumsy enough for the title to fit. anyway, i'll explain that later! today i mixed stripes and i liked it...

this is probably one of my favorite skirts, but i don't wear it that often because the chiffon is so lightweight that i feel like i'm constantly rubbing my hand over my butt to make sure it's still down; it's so light that i can't feel it's there! the clutch i love because of the different textured leather, and it was a steal at only $1. and those shoes, what's not to love about finishing off an outfit with a pair of six pound wedges? good for the calves, i'm sure.

when i run on the treadmill i find that i feel like i've been on for an hour when in fact it's only been 7 minutes thanks to boredom... UNLESS i watch a movie while i run, then 30 minutes goes by in no time. one of the more recent movies i watched was 13 going on 30. i'm prepared to lose all my street cred here, but it's one of my favorite movies, and i can never get enough 80's music. because i love that movie, and this song is in it, i've been singing this all day (and there's the title of the post)...

navy dress take 3: an outift post

last night i had absolutely no idea what in the world i'd wear today, and when that happens, i always think the easiest thing to do is go with solid colors, because they're so much easier to work with (for me, at least). so then i figured, "hey, why not wear the navy dress again for outfit number 3?" i apologize for the pictures not being that great, but when you combine wind, cold, and a husband with a bad knee, well, i'm lucky to get pictures at all!

i have to tell you a few things about this outfit. first, that cardigan is straight out of the 1950's. i was so happy when i found it (because it's a tiny size that fits me perfectly) and because it still had the original tag on it so i know it had never been worn. and the price on the tag was $17, so if it was that much back in the 50's i know it must have been something pretty special! the next thing i'm so excited about is the shoes! i love this style, although i wasn't so sure about the color, but now that i have them, AND I PAID LESS THAT TEN DOLLARS, i can't understand how i lived without them! i get so crazy about a deal.

other than that, it was sort of a weird day. i'm glad to be home, and i'll be even more glad to be eating greek pizza later. ooohh yeah.

granny pants take 1: an outfit post

i really shouldn't be unfair and call these granny pants since 1. they do not have an elastic waistband, rather a zipper and hook & eye closure, 2. they don't have the crease perma-made down the front of the legs, 3. they don't smell like powdery musk, and 4. they're navy and not a pastel shade. they are polyester though, so there is that. and static. still, i think high waist pants are going to take some getting used to. to be honest, i always thought that part of thrifting was off limits until i saw monkeyface wearing vintage high waist pants a few months ago, and voila, a whole new world of thrifting possibilities.

i really didn't plan to do another outfit post today since i swear i have other things going on in my life other than getting dressed, but i needed to get it out of the way because of some change that's going to happen, only i can't tell you what hat change will be until a few days from now. hello, vague information. until then, i hope you have a great rest of the week and weekend!

colored tights and leftovers: an outfit post

i'm going to be honest - after the last outfit post where i said i couldn't be picky about what i wore because i was behind on laundry, i still didn't do laundry. so again, i had to wear the leftovers that weren't in the hamper. that makes me sound like such a man, doesn't it? so my goal today, because i don't like that skirt and don't want to have to wear something else i don't like, is to do one load of laundry (two if i'm lucky).

what fun is doing an outfit post without doing the robot? also, i can't help but feel awkward just standing there with a weird look on my face because that's not really me; i'd much rather cross my eyes or do the robot. so there it is. at first i put on the pearl necklace but i felt it wasn't quite big enough. then i took it off and put on the necklace from sarah, but i still felt like i wanted something big and over-the-top gaudy. so i put the pearl necklace back on and figured i'd have more street cred if i wore two, and that made it big enough.

i've got some good news: the sun is back out which means i'll be able to take some pictures without wasting my time like i did yesterday in the rain! wooooo!

when you're behind on laundry: an outfit post

bye bye until april, bare legs. this outfit sort of has me going in circles - one minute i think i like it, the next minute i'm telling myself i shouldn't wear it again. it always helps me make decisions (and i never like making decisions) when i can list out the pros and cons, so let's do that...

scarf: vintage/thrifted, corduroy blazer: vintage/thrifted, dress: target, boots: vintage/thrifted

PROS:
- this scarf is one of my favorites
-green is my favorite color, and i think the pale green color of the blazer is perfect
-it's comfortable
-i have pockets so i don't have to worry about what to do with my hands
-i like that there's some print mixing

CONS:
-because of the blazer's longer length i think it makes me look shorter, so maybe i shouldn't have worn flats.
-although it's not a loose-fitting outfit, i don't think it's necessarily figure-flattering
-i saw my stepmom's stepdad when i was wearing this outfit, and before any pleasantries were exchanged he said, "it looks like you've gained some weight." nice. i don't think i've gained weight, so i'm wondering if the outfit adds non-existent pounds.

what i would do different the next time i wear this outfit: trade the flat riding boots for a pair of black wedge ankle boots and add black tights. what do you think? yes or no?
