what do you wear to find dusty treasures?

today micaela and i met up at our favorite spot for all things old and dusty to get jewelry for kjrsten's vintage jewelry swap. it feels like fall is finally here as today's high was predicted to be in the mid 50's, which means i finally get to make use of the best items in my closet/on my chair/on top of the dryer: cardigans! so, here's what i wear to search through overcrowded rooms for dusty treasures...and this face is for you, carla.

when it comes to my clothes, i'm incredibly plain. just throwing that out there. blouse - vintage from ebay years ago, cardigan - forever 21, jeans - i can't remember but they're my favorite pair, mocs - vintage minnetonka from mere trifles, turquoise ring - dinosaur toes. and of course micaela looked cute as always in a dress and heels (i swear, i need to start being more feminine).

i can't show you all of what i got because most of the items are for someone else, but here's what is staying with me:

the fabric is completely awesome. it was in a box with some really unfortunate 70's stretch polyester fabric, and of course that did not come home with me. it has some staining, but i'm going to wash it, and if that doesn't get the stains out, i'll still use what i can for lining or pockets of tote bags. if i haven't already told you, i'm completely obsessed with old frames. if in the future you see me on an episode of hoarders, it will be because i've been buried alive by old frames. this one is simple, but i really liked it, and i have a large art print that i think is this size exactly. the arrowhead thing was the focal piece of a bolo tie, but since i don't wear bolo ties, i'm going to drill through the top so i can put it on a chain as a pendant. it was too awesome not to come home with me!

last but not least, micaela and i are now engaged, so if you were thinking of asking for my hand (with the crooked fingers as you can so clearly see above), it's too late.

wishlist wednesday!

Okay, so I'm a little embarrassed to admit it, but Chris and I are pretty much the biggest cheapskates you'll ever meet...almost. In our nine years of bring married, the only furniture we've actually purchased is our sectional sofa, and antique trunk, a loveseat and a $2 end table that I still can't get Chris to admit is awesome. Our dining room table & chairs, bedroom suite, my desk, and our guest bed/futon are all hand-me-downs, so if you can imagine, our house is a little bare in the furniture area. When we were in our old house it didn't matter as that place was tiny, but now that we're in a house twice that size, it's become apparent that we need more stuff! I wouldn't mind having these things to fill up our space...

In dinosaur toes news, I've been working my big butt off on a dinosaur toes website. I always make impossible deadlines for myself, and I decided that I should be able to have it up and running by Tuesday evening (which gave me three days to create it from start to finish), but I'm thinking it's more reasonable to say it will be up and running by the first of next week. Of course I'll let you know because I'll need your input!

my antiquing adventure

You remember how I told you (what seems like a hundred years ago) that I was going with my dad, stepmom and grandma on an antiquing adventure last Monday? Well, the whole flu thing put me behind on showing pictures, but I haven't forgotten about it! We went to Roanoke, which isn't quite an hour away, and I can say without a doubt that I have a new favorite antique mall.

From the top: That pink sewing machine was SO cute! I have no idea whether or not it works, but I'd love to have it just because it's so darn pretty. Next is a man's razor. Seriously, what does a man need such a fancy, rhinestone-encrusted razor for? It even had a satin-lined case! I'm a woman and I don't even have anything that fancy! The hat in the third picture was super pretty. As a matter of fact, all the hats were pretty! I found a beautiful wool fedora with a bow on the side in the tiniest houndstooth pattern, and I just knew I'd buy it seeing as how all hats were 50% off, but it as to small. I don't have a big head, so I'm guessing it was made for a child. What a shame, it was so pretty. Below the hat is a pair of hand carved shoes. Really pretty and really pricey. Dad and Tricia later saw a pair selling for $450! Then there's me playing Napoleon. Pretty intimidating, huh? Since my dad can't read anything that isn't held 6 feet away, I saw that giant magnifying glass (so big the base sits on the floor) and told him his troubles were over! Last is my dad and I, but I like to call him pop. I love him SO much!

my treasure hunt

This morning, my favorite aunt (Cindy) called to see if I wanted to go to our favorite antique/junk store and lunch. Of course I said yes, I couldn't refuse girl talk and treasure hunting! Sadly, I found more than my wallet would allow me, but I did come home with some real treats!

The best find of the day was a large, painted wood tray with fold out legs. By the sticker on the back, I can tell this baby is REALLY old! It was a steal at $10. I also decided to bring home two bluebird mugs, a victorian couple plate (I can't resist anything victorian), two frames (one with a pretty print), odd earrings and a German health book...Deutsche, ja!
