noses rejoice!

i was about to start this post with, "you know one of my favorite things about spring" but seriously, i have about 853 favorite things about spring, so that could be a slippery slope. one of my favorite things about this spring day is lilac blossoms! we have a lilac bush in our front yard, and for the last few weeks i've watched the leaves fill in and the tiny purple buds start to sprout. a few days a go the flowers were finally blooming, and they're sweeter than any perfume i've ever smelled! since the bush gets covered in so many flowers, i never mind cutting some off to bring inside. i put my clippings in some of the old bottles i got the other week, and they look so pretty i wish they'd stay that way for the rest of the year!

my sweet little kona bear might be a little camera shy. well, that or he just doesn't see the point in sitting still if he isn't having his belly scratched or on my lap. what an attention hog. i tried to make the lilac look like a boutonniere so he'd be a little gentleman, but he wasn't having it (i think it looks like he's sighing and saying, with an annoyed tone to his voice, "are you almost done?!? get this thing off of me!"). either way, what a handsome guy!

what sorts of flowers do you have in your yard? are you planting more this spring or summer? what is your favorite thing about spring? i know i am, and as boring as this may sound, i told chris i wouldn't mind getting mulch for my birthday! i love landscaping, and i have my pop and high school job at the greenhouse to thank for that!

  1. Mulch! Ha! You're so cute. I love those lilacs! I've never had those...yummmm. Also, Kona looks amazing, I wish he'd sit still cause he is gorgeous! The purple is so pretty against his shiny black fur. =)

  2. I LOVE lilacs! They are my favorite. We have white & purple, and I am always so sad when they are gone. I could sniff them all day! :) Adorable pictures!

  6. Lilacs are my favorite too! We had two enormous bushes in the yard of my childhood home that made a perfect fort. Smelling them takes me back. : )

    Happy Spring!

  8. I am SO jealous of your lilacs!! We used to have a few bushes at our old house that were taken from my great grandma's garden. I was really heartbroken that we couldn't take them when we moved. We tried taking some cutting but they died :( When I have my own house they will be at the top of my list for the garden!!
And Oh, how I love spring. I'm with you on that!

  9. Kona is a cutie! We used to have Lilac in our yard when I was growing up, it's my mother's favorite and the smell always reminds me of my mom & spring. But *my* favorite flowering tree is Magnolia! I've already told M that when we buy our first house we will be planting a magnolia tree in the front yard :)

  10. I am not a huge lover of spring. I do love the warm temps and the happy colors though. It's welcome after a long hard winter but I love fall best. That is my time of year. These pictures are great though! :).

  14. We have flowers all over on the cherry and magnolia trees in our neighbourhood, but no leaves! You really are so much further into spring than we are. And your Kona is very very adorable and patient. Lola turns her face away from us when she is just tolerating us doing things like putting clothing on her. It's like she can't look at us or she'd have to face the fact that we're disappointing her so much at that moment. It just makes it cuter. :)

  15. i just want to cuddle with your kona! :) he may be camera shy, but he's photogenic like his owner for sure ;)

i'm attempting to keep a plant alive... so small steps, i got a hanging pot of geraniums to test myself out with... and then perhaps the end result will be a garden (someday!)

i bet it was fun to have a job at a greenhouse in school :)

better than waiting tables, like i was doing! lol

  16. Love this! Lilac is one of my favorite colors/flowers. Oh spring! I love looking at everyone in the "blogosphere" [oh how I hate that word lol] talking about spring! Since where I live it's summer year long. haha I never get the chance to see everything grey and then colorful! Maybe I'll have a balcony garden hehe

  17. i think lilacs are my favorite. we have a lilac bush and one of the best parts of spring is when you can smell them before you see them. definitely going to have to plant a lilac bush (tree?) at new house!

  19. I have a dog crush on Kona. I can't believe he let you put flowers on him. He's giving you the side-eye that says "I am tolerating this because I love you."
Favorite thing about spring? Spring boot-ay. It's always better in the spring for some reason:)

  21. welllllll he's pretty much the handsomest guy around. I LOVE IT!

Fortunately my neighbor is a gardener, so we have lots of flowers in the garden below. Which is awesome since I have nothing close to a green thumb.
