new year's resolutions for the real world.

many years ago i decided to stop playing cruel jokes on myself by making myself think i could actually kick old habits and start living a life you'd read about in good housekeeping magazine. don't get me wrong, i'd like to live on organic vegetables, wake up at 6am to bake fresh bread and work in my garden, followed by a 10 mile jog, all while wearing freshly ironed clothes, but the reality is: i won't! so to keep things honest, or even to keep from setting the bar too high, i've created a list of resolutions with which i'm happy to comply. i pledge to:

1. eat as many french fries as i want and never feel guilty about it.
2. go thrifting and buy things i don't need because, hey, you can't beat the price!
3. continue making jewelry and not worry when people think i don't have a "real" job.
4. continue correcting the most obvious grammatical errors.
5. wear my pajamas all day long.
6. make my bed only after i change the sheets.
7. always be honest, even if it means disagreeing.
8. anthropomorphize animals.
9. dream of living in san francisco.
10. use humor in serious situations.

have you made any new year's resolutions? are you good about sticking with them? and, in honor of national bird day (thanks, anna, for letting me know), here's my heart and soul...

  1. Ha we so need to meet!!! I kept my resolution simple .. buy milk from my farmers' market milk man ... it is raw milk and boy did that make my mom, sister and a couple friends freak out ... whatever the milk I was getting before can also be questionable. Any who, you are so witty and real ... I love that about your posts!!! XO!

  5. I'm a little late on the resolution making and am yet decided if i should or not. I was thinking about committing more to my blog, i have been neglecting it alot lately and feel sad that i haven't put the time or energy into it. If i have one resolution that is it, blogspot attention needed asap! :-)

  6. 1.I just ate some Fries last night for the first time in a long time and it. was. AWESOME!

    2. As long as you are being thrifty...

    3. I struggle with that conversation too, but like you, I have learned to let go.

    4. Alan always corrects me...while he was visiting I got talking really fast and said "so much more better" WOW. I need to slow down and use my brain. It's a funny joke now.

    5. I'm happy I'm not the only one wearing pjs all day. I usually change around 5 for the first time. Sometimes I uses make-up! When it warms up, I work in my shirt, undies and tube socks. Basically, I look like an old person that's lost their mind.

    6. ditto

    7. good luck

    8. and we love you for it!

    9. I dream of Spain, but I don't know Spainish :(

    10. I'd rather laugh than cry or feel uncomfortable.

overall, get your butt to TX so we can all goof off.

  7. Your resolutions are so doable.
The best one is to use humor during serious situations.
More people should do that! The world would be a better place.

  9. Those are great resolutions. I don't ever make any because I'd rather make a real change in my life instead of just plan to.

  14. this is by far the best new years post i've seen! i totally agree with you, just because the date of the year changed, doesn't mean all of our normal habits will!

  15. kind of obsessed with this list. it is awesome. and honestly, i hope you're serious about correcting grammar. it gives me anxiety attacks when people confuse "your" and "you're" and "there", "their", and "they're". ahhh!

  16. haha love all of these resolutions - keeping it real!

My only resolution so far is to "drag my sorry arse to the gym even if I don't feel like going". Six days in and I haven't broken it yet. I've already lasted a lot longer than I thought I would. Woo!

  17. Oh so very real! And I totally hate when people think having your own online business must be easy. They don't know how hard it is to self-motivate yourself while keeping up with your shop, blog & other social networks, advertising, and etc.

Anyway, your little birdie's so cute - lol I think I tell you that on all my comments!

your resolutions are refreshing, and so true. I haven't made resolutions in forever but your list inspired me to make 2.
    - I will continue to eat chocolate for breakfast and not let anyone make me feel bad about it.

  34. That's so cool, every one should have some goals and aims for his or her near future, because these goals motivate him to put his maximum efforts to get results. Very nice and interesting post dear.
