a new thing, a new winner, and a new problem.

it's a post of news. first off, i want to show you my new thing! a few posts back i told you that i had been contemplating making poster sized prints of some of my favorite pictures. so, i adjusted the dpi, sent chris to the office, and put him to work. having a husband with a plotter is pretty rad, but having a husband with a plotter with a new cartridge (or toner or whatever it uses) would be ideal! i kid, i think i'll keep chris. anyway, the ink was a little low so the saturation isn't perfect, but it'll do! once that baby's refilled or replaced (i don't use a plotter so i have no idea what it takes) i'll have a few more posters of different pictures! this poster is a picture of one of the wild parrots in san francisco. maybe i could offer one as a giveaway?

moving right along, time to announce a winner! brittan was kind enough to offer one lucky reader an original watercolor painting. she's recently added watercolor prints to her shop, so if you haven't already, you should go take a look! the winner is... HELEN / SERENDIPITYCHILD!

now, onto the bad part of this post. i hope none of this comes out the wrong way, because the last thing i'm looking to do is make everyone think i'm a jerk. but, there are two things blog-related that have really been getting on my nerves lately. first: the unsolicited-spam-gimme-your-money-and-support-my-blog emails or etsy convos. it's getting insane. some days i get as many as three or four of these. other days, i may not get a single email, except for one of those. when did it become acceptable to start harassing and annoying people with requests for money? don't they realize that if someone was interested in sponsoring a blog, that person would email the blogger to inquire further? it just doesn't seem right to me, and i know it's getting more and more common. second: bloggers trash talking the content of other blogs. i realize that i just trash talked a certain method of business, but it's the sales tactic i have a problem with, not the people themselves. anyway, more and more recently i've seen other bloggers get downright vicious talking about outfit posts on other blogs. how does it make them feel better to insult someone and their personal style? and why do they even care that there are fashion/daily outfit post blogs out there if they're not interested in reading them? sure, i may not like every outfit i see, and you will not like every outfit i wear, but the last time i checked, identical uniforms were not required. if people want to do outfit posts, and if, god forbid, they want to wear an outfit that someone else may not like, why not just stop looking if the style is so offensive? why pollute twitter, facebook, or some other site with your negative opinions? just stop looking, dammit! there, i got it off my chest.

i hope you're having a happy tuesday!

  3. Very true - People say they don't like a certain blog - then get out, don't read it, and go on with your life. But ignorance will do that to people! Congratulations to Helen ;)

  8. I can't believe people have the gall to send you so many emails. I guess that just means you're a big deal :)
I haven't seen anyone bash other people's style but I really can't believe that. How stupid that people want to be snarky :(

Oh, and I definitely think you should offer a giveaway of one of your posters, that would be so neat!

  9. So much to say about this post! First of all, agreed, keep it positive. If you aren't interested in someone's blog posts, don't read them. End of story. Second, your poster looks awesome. I am excited to see more of your work in this kind of format! I just made a second one yesterday, too, and I have to say, there is something so awesome about the giant format. I recommend the halftone filter in photoshop, too. I like the texture it adds. And finally, I'm loving your new header. Spring is coming! I can feel it!

  11. 1. cool new thing!
    2. I agree with you - too much negativity! I don't like every outfit post either, but I realize that other people do like them. Beauty means different things to different people. Move on.

  12. you go girl. you know i agree with you. people need to stop pushing their blogs on others, and i also don't agree with trash talking others outfits or ideas..there is no need for that, and thats what separates friends on the internet and people who are just looking for attention

  13. preach it lady!

i hate when people are mean. there are a great many times i don't like something on a blog, but i most definitely will NOT blog/tweet/or facebook about it. not ok. i can't even bring myself to share any of the stuff on "regr-etsy" ....it's just too mean. i think blogging is a nice little community and i hope it stays that way!

  14. You are so incredibly bad ass, Danielle, and I think wish you lived closer!
I agree with you completely. I've received a few of these emails lately too. Generally, I like to reach out to blogs I love. I think most people do it that way.
On the subject of negative talk, I think those bloggers are alienating their own readers.
If I want to read smack, I'll click on Perez Hilton...and I make it a point to never EVER click on Perez Hilton.

  19. Boo to those people who send you those outrageous requests. How dare they. And I agree, the negativity in the blogosphere has.got.to.stop. And the worst part is that it's 99.9% women trashing other women. Which is sad. Don't we get enough crap from the world for being women? Cramps? Giving birth? Less pay than men AND less powerful positions, too? Yeah, I'd say we have it pretty rough already. Let's not make it worse.

  20. I have never been able to understand people bagging out other peoples blogs if you dont like it done read it, you dont need to let everyone else know how you feel.

    ReplyDelete
  21. haha. That WAS a roar. Both very true points though. I just started offering paid ads because I was getting a lot of requests for trades, and while that's really cool and I'm all for it - it was becoming a lot of work and i wanted to offer trades to peoples work I loved, not just say yes to everyone. Also, I didn't want to hurt anyones feelings by saying no. So it seemed like a good idea to filter a bit with a small fee - and it's worked out great. I'd never ask anyone to advertise though - twittering and blogging a little is as far as anyone should go I think.

The being negative about others blogs is really immature and petty. It must makes that blogger look vindictive or jealous. Always best to keep those thoughts to yourself, and think - why do I feel so angry about what this person chooses to do? How does it hurt me?

your blog, i can't say enough good about on the other hand :-D XO
