i only have one wish today...

I've decided not to do my regular "wishlist wednesday" post today, because frankly, I couldn't care less about having a shiny new toy. My only wish for today is that Cheesecake a.k.a. Fatty a.k.a. Woopie, could be here with me. I never, ever thought that I'd spend yesterday evening saying goodbye to him. He was sweeter and more loyal than any human friend, and I hurt so badly knowing that I can't rub those velvety ears and scratch that belly again.

I know that it can be dangerous to form such an unbreakable bond with an animal, but to me, they have been the strongest, most important friendships, more so than those with people. I'm grateful for the time, memories and pictures, but nothing can ever fill the emptiness that was left when Woopie died. I hope the movie title is true, and that all dogs really do go to heaven.

  7. Gosh I'm so sorry to hear that. It's never easy saying goodbye to your furry friend. I work at a veterinarian's office...and I see it all the time, but it never gets any easier. Keep your head up! You will get through it. :)

(I am trying desperately not to cry right now) I know how much you love cheesecake and I wish that there was something I could say to make you feel better... I know how hard it is to lose a furry best friend, my heart goes out to you! so much love to you and chris... (veda and jacob say they are sorry too, and you are welcome to come the 800 miles to visit and snuggle them anytime, otherwise they are sending you puppy love!)

  9. This post brings tears to my eyes. Losing an animal is seriously one of the worst feelings in the world, and I am so sorry that you are going through it! I'm certain that all dogs go to heaven, and that yours is winking down at you right now telling you that he's all good!

  12. dearest danielle, my heart hurts for you because i know how this is. They really are family... our dog Mooshie died last year and even when i went home in March, sometimes i would still forget she wasn't there anymore :( it hurts, i know it does but i believe whole heartedly that all dogs DO go to heaven and your fatty is playing with my little chihuahua.

Dogs are unconditional love... what you said is so true. Mooshie always knew when i was sad, better than any friend and was always there.

Cheesecake was such a happy dog! i can just see it. He was loved and what a happy life that must have been.

HEARTS and all my hugs! you're both in my thoughts.

    xo

  14. danielle, so so sorry about your loss. :[ when i lost my dog lacey two years ago, it was exactly as you said, like loosing a friend. animals are just as amazing and dear of friends as human ones, if not more because they are always there for you, no matter what. it's just as devastating and heartbreaking when a loved one dies and i hope you're doing well during this time of mourning. <3 <3

sending lots of love your way,
    - L

  15. Hi Danielle,
I'm a regular reader of your blog, and I know I should comment more often, but I'm terribly sorry for your loss. I'm so sad to hear about your pup's passing. I know the bond we form with our pups is incredibly strong, and I can't even begin to imagine how much it would hurt to lose my own. I am positive Woopie knew he was loved.

    xoxo

  16. I'm so sorry for the loss of your dear friend. We have never had a dog, but when we lost our cat a few years ago, we were heartbroken. Hope your happy memories (and all the lovely photos) help to take some of the hurt away.

  18. I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. *hugs* He seems like he was such a sweet, sweet doggie. I personally do think all dogs (and cats!) go to heaven -- I can't even picture one without my beloved pets there. They truly do become like family.

  20. I remember when I lost my dog i was sad for so long, your so right the bond we share with our pets is just as strong as ones with human friends. wish I could take your pain away! virtual hugs!!

  21. Oh No! I'm sooo sorry. There is nothing worse then loosing a pet. I agree that I have a closer bond with dogs then with most peple. As Jasper turns 3 I realize due to his large size that his life is half over and I'm so sad. I send you a big hug :)

  22. I'm so sorry for your loss. I don't think people can truely understand how close one gets to their pets unless they have experienced it themselves. Mine has been with me for 10 years and we're waiting to see if she has cancer. I was rubbing her belly last night thinking that I really wasn't ready for her to leave me yet.

Our lives are richer because they are with us. My thoughts are with you.

  23. I'm so, so sorry!! We lost our 14 year old lab 2 months ago so I understand what you're going through! My grandma told me when I was little that whatever I want will be in Heaven so I like to think that about my dog:)

  24. Oh, Danielle. I'm so sorry to hear this. We lost our dog, Keegan, this past September and there are still days when I miss her so much I can't stand it.
The risk we take by loving animals is that one day we will loose them but I think it is better to experience the unbridled love and joy they offer than to never again have animals.
My thoughts are with you & Chris and I hope you are able to keep smiling.

PS If you'd like to borrow a Basset Hound puppy let me know and I'll ship Edie to you.

  27. what a gorgeous, compassionate and open heart you must have to love another (any other) so wonderfully big.

  31. I'm so sorry for your loss :(. The bonds that I have with my pets is sometimes one that alot of people don't understand.

My grandmother always told me that God wouldn't of created such a beautiful animal if they weren't' supposed to go to heaven. So always remember that, and he's watching over you now.

    *Hugs*

  32. Woopie had such a sweet face. I have the same bond with my fat butts (my cat). I don't know what I'll do when she's gone. I too hope there's a heaven for dogs and all other pets as well.

  36. My baby girl is only 6 months and I've got a long ways before I need to really worry, but it's everyday I think about her and often worry about her safety even when she's in good hands with my family at home when I'm out. I hate when I imagine the day she needs to go (esp because she's got tons of time before that), and I get really sad and full of tears, so I can't imagine your pain. I'm so so so to hear this Danielle. Lots of love my dear. ♥

  39. Oh Danielle, I'm just catching up on your blog and need to send condolences. It takes time to heal this wound. But joy and hope can be stronger than grief. It does take time though.
I believe we'll be reunited with our pets in heaven. Afterall, they have spirits! :) And God loves us.
    Take care.
