It's time for another round of home decor show and tell! If you want to join in, you can leave a link to your post in the comments, or go link up on Kassi's blog.
The first item is this beautiful vintage brass turtle trinket box. You may remember me telling you about my super sweet (so sweet she'll give you cavities) friend, Christin. Well, she's outdone herself again! I got this little beauty in the mail last Friday afternoon, and there was no note or anything to let me know who it came from. She saw that I liked it decided to surprise me with it! You already know how much I love birds, but I also love turtles just the same! I took this picture on my living room mantle, but I've since found it a home on an end table in my den so everyone can see it!
After my grandpa died, I brought some of the flowers home that were at his funeral. Once they started to wilt, and I knew I'd soon be throwing them away, I decided to take some pictures so in a way I'd always have them. This is my favorite picture, and I put it in a vintage frame and displayed it in my living room. I think of Grandpa every time I see it. ♥
Ch-ch-check us out on Cole's blog. She's doing a series on love!

That turtle is AMAZING! I love bronze animals like that... one of my favorite objects is a bronze swordfish from the 1950's that I found at a thrift shop. I put my keys on the tail and it makes me happy every time I grab them to leave the house. Such a great find and I love that your awesome friend just surprised you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a really cool way to memorialize your grandpa. VERY cool.
ReplyDeleteHappy Tuesday!

ReplyDeleteAnd dad's flowers...how very moving. I was just crying tonight thinking how last year at this time I was too busy being pregnant to know he was dying.

Wanted to add that you have a way of making everything meaningful...proud to be your aunt...love you!

ReplyDeleteand that picture is lovely <3 i'd love to have sth to remind me of my grandpa as cool as that.
Micaela, Christin truly is one-of-a-kind! I always look forward to her surprises!
ReplyDeleteFallon, I can't wait to see what else you've found! You've got so many neat things, it makes me want to hop a plane to Vegas just to go thrifting!
Kimberly, Etsy and blogging friends are just cool like that! I wish so badly that I could have known we were losing Grandpa, but I think we were all so hopeful that he'd get better. IF anything positive can come of it, it's that we know he isn't miserable and suffering anymore. And you don't know how happy I am that you're my aunt (and best friend)!
You have the most beautiful things! Thanks for sharing a wonderful post! :)
ReplyDeleteI love your post. My grandpa was very special to me too. He was like my second daddy. He walked me down the aisle too! When he passed away two years ago it was very hard. I love how that picture reminds you of him. I have something similar to that that reminds me of my brother that passed away before my grandpa... A flower type pin with dried lavender that I wore to his funeral. I have it on my beside and always think of him when I see it every morning.
ReplyDeleteOh and I forgot to say that I had a chuckle when reading your story over at Cole's blog... I too am embarrassed how Hubby and I met... The same my dear, not I feel better that i am not alone in my sheepish embarrassment... xoxo Lexy
ReplyDeletei love that little turtle trinket box! so cute!
ReplyDeleteand the flower picture was such a good idea...plus it's really pretty as art in general...but the sentimental value makes it that much cooler.
