built around a sweater: an outfit post

we're having that crazy fall weather where it's 25 degrees when i get up and leave, but 60 degrees by the afternoon, so layers are pretty much as important as, oh, i don't know, air and french fries. i've been wanting to wear this skirt for a while now, but they when i looked through my armoire, i decided that i wanted to wear this sweater beca gave me even more than i wanted to wear the skirt, so it's a good thing the two could be worn together!

jean jacket: american eagle, sweater: (vintage) gift from my girl beca, chiffon skirt: vintage, tights (which are striped but you can't see in the pictures): target, shoes: payless, necklace: i made it.

i love that necklace, and i'm glad i sat down with chris to look at his coin collection. i permanently borrowed a 1930's buffalo nickel from him which i think makes the perfect pendant!

i hope you guys have a good weekend! i know i will because pop and i are going back to the trails for some more bike riding saturday evening and i can't wait!

badonkadonk & print mixing: an outfit post

i'm glad i finally realized that print mixing is a good thing, because it opens up a whole new world of opportunity as far as outfits go! our weather has been pretty schizophrenic lately, so one day i'm wearing short sleeves and using the AC, and the next i'm wearing a faux fur wrap and blasting the heat to combat purple fingers and toes. lately we've been enjoying weather that's better suited for mid-april, but i'll take it as long as i can get it...and then i want several feet of snow!

cardigan: the limited (i think) via rugged wearhouse, dress: target, belt: it came with a dress, wedges: payless, badonkadonk: thanks a lot, genetics.

can you believe it, and outfit where i'm not wearing my black riding boots! crazy, i know. i'm still in the infant stages of mixing patterns and prints, but i'm coming to realize that, to me, leopard is the easiest print to pair with others; i don't know if it's the color or the fact that it's almost as basic as black, but i find that it seems to go with pretty much everything. my butt, on the other hand, doesn't go with much. as long as i'm not getting into kim kardashian territory i think i'm safe but i wish i knew a flattening method!

are you guys all ready for thanksgiving? i'm ready to eat enough for three adults and one young child, but the way i look at it is, i can eat until i bust my pants wide open because the day after pop and i and maybe some other family will go bike riding at the black water trails, so basically thanksgiving will just be building up my strength for a day of riding! you can pretty much find ways to rationalize everything, especially when the subject is food.

oh, and if you haven't yet checked it out, the lovely toni and i are doing a charity auction to benefit the rachael horton compassionate fund, so take a look to see if you're interested, or pass it along to anyone you think will be!

a tame wildcat: an outfit post

you remember how years ago in fashion magazines there would always be a whole section of random people on the street that would be photographed and tell the details (as in who made it or where it came from) on each piece of clothing they were wearing? that might still be done, it's just been a while since i've seen it. anyway, sort of a spin on it, since i'm a hardcore rock-bottom-deal aficionado, i always think not of where each item of clothing came from, but how much i paid for it. this outfit cost me less than a meal, and it includes my favorite: LEOPARD PRINT!

the outfit details - blouse: vintage/thrifted ($3), belt: vintage/thrifted ($1), skirt: vintage/thrifted ($2), wedges: target clearance ($5), bangles: i made them.

BAM! throw in a little wildcat print, mix that with a little wallet taming, and you've got one of my favorite types of outfits! i'm wondering, if all of my outfits could be put together for this much or less, would it make my husband more supportive of my clothing buying and collecting, seeing as how it is a genuine and justifiable hobby? it's worth putting together a pie chart and presentation to make my argument seem more legit.

are you on the lookout for a good deal, too? and do you have any favorite thrifting finds?
