Recycling is rad.

Being green may be a current fad, but unlike the Harlem Shake, vegan cleanses or thick bangs, it's one I can fully embrace!  Our pal Jeff owns a skate/snow/bike shop downtown, and in addition to boards, accessories, and rad t-shirts, he also carries a line of his handmade, recycled skateboard products.  I loved his keychains and bottle openers when I first saw them, but I really (okay, figuratively) fell out of my chair when I saw his latest product: coasters.

To get an idea of how he makes his recycled skateboard products, and see a little bit of his process, this time lapse video showing part of the making of a cutting board is pretty neat and definitely makes me appreciate the products even more!

Pretty neat, right?  It's one thing for a bottle to be made out of a low percentage of recycled materials and call it green, but it's another thing entirely when someone follows the three R's and the outcome is something you'd actually use!  My coffee table is an old wooden storage trunk that won't be hurt by the sweat on a glass, but I'm going to teach myself to use coasters just to have a few from Scene 3!

yesterday afternoon i started to get some pictures together of things i wanted to add to my wish list, and it wasn't difficult to decide on a theme considering what i'd spent much of the day doing: rearranging things in my house! when you rearrange things in your house, does it give you new decorating ideas and make you want new stuff? it does for me! i didn't get around to blogging yesterday though because of my weekly chat with carla. i feel like i could talk to her straight through a three day stretch and still not want to hang up. she's just that rad. so here are a few things i'd like to add to my house...

also, in case you were wondering, yes, i have been practicing the worm. i kind of have the basic move down (although sometimes it's just a general smash), but i can't get it smooth like the pros, and i also can't get that high off the floor. i need to get better at it though, because i want to randomly bust out the worm the next time carla and i get together.

I'll be back with more San Francisco (or as I like to call it, "my home away from home) pictures, but first, look at my new treasures! I got these from Michelle, the sweet shop owner of storybookcharm on Etsy.

The adorable little turtle is a magnifying glass, and while my vision is still 20/20, it never hurts to give your books such a cute companion. As you read a few posts ago, I've gone gaga over tarnished silver knick knacks! This basket is beautiful and makes a nice home for my antique mercury glass ornaments on my mantle. There are lots of other vintage goods in her shop, just see for yourself!

silver lining

I've recently become completely smitten with all things silver and tarnished. Forget "old is gold," as I think the more appropriate term would be, "old is tarnished, greyed, darkened, slightly worn silver!" In my perusing, I've come across a few pieces on Etsy that I'd rather not live without, but because I'm a bit of a cheapskate, I probably will.
