Party Pants

How was your weekend?  Mine was nice; it included steaks on the grill, cheesecake with cherries on top, a pizza slice the size of my head, and CHRIS' BIRTHDAY!

1.  Party pants needed a party hat to match his party banner (#3).  He did not like wearing it.
2.  My status over the weekend went from "Not A Griller" to "You Bet Your Ass I'm A Griller."  I told Chris I was making hamburgers on the grill for his birthday to trick him like any good wife would.  Not surprisingly, he preferred the T-bone.
3.  The party hat banner I made for Chris' birthday last year (and will display every year).
4.  The end of another weekend, and the thoughts of aaalllll the screen printing I have to work on tomorrow morning...

Happy hatch day!

Happy Hatch Day to my beautiful, silly, playful, smart, loving, amazing baby, Flojo!  Today is Flojo's 8th hatch day and I plan to give her all the treats she wants.  I'd say I also plan to give her all the kisses she wants plus some, but that's actually every day.  Here are some of the most stand out memories from these last eight years with my best friend...

1. When she was learning to fly, first she would take a little jump and flap her wings two or three times and seem so proud of herself even though she didn't go more than an inch or two; then a few days later, after she got the hang of flapping, she would do more flapping but end up going backwards.

2. The time (shortly after she was able to fly a foot or two) she quickly ran down Chris' arm, stole a marshmallow from his bowl of cereal and then flew with her stolen loot toward her cage.  Until then we had no idea she could be so quick!

3. We were still hand feeding her when Easter came, so Chris put those little pastel plastic Easter eggs around her with one opened so it looked like she'd just hatched (second picture in this post).

4. The time she had to have Marvel Aid (bird medicine) which kept her up the ENTIRE night climbing loops in her cage, and every time she got to the top of her cage during a loop, she'd hang upside down with one foot, squeak a few times, then continue the loop.  It's was a sleepless night, but she was feeling back to her old self in the morning!

5. Each and every time she falls asleep snuggled against my chest, every time she quietly whispers to me and rubs her cheek against mine, every time she gives me one of her sweet kisses, each time I get to rub her feathers and watch her eyes get sleepy, and every morning I get to wake up and see her beautiful face light up when she sees me.

gimme, gimme

my birthday is a short 13 days away (the big birthday - 30!!!), so naturally i've been thinking about the hundreds of things i'd like to have. okay, i honestly start thinking about it in february. it's ridiculous. anyway, i've been constantly adding to my mental wish list, and i think i should stop before i mentally spend more money than i'll ever make in a lifetime. a few of my top favorites on said mental wish list are these...

where to find these beauties: elk chandelier // vintage folding basket // vintage shift dress // vintage pleated skirt // witching hour necklace // alligator tie rack // vintage silk skirt // wood side table // gold leaf poster // vintage skirt

you know, on second thought, with such a large wish list, maybe i should just take up playing the lottery. yes, maybe i will. when you have a birthday coming up, how far ahead do you start making your list? or do you make a list? i guess being an adult and paying bills and doing adult things can be sort of meh sometimes, so that's why birthdays and christmas are still so fun, because those are days you can still celebrate and get excited no matter your age!

balls are to men what purses are to women

The lovely Micaela tagged me to show you my purse and it's contents. Like my life at the moment, the guts of my tote are a complete mess. Whoa, heavy. Of course I didn't show you the post office receipts and tampons, but they're no fun anyway!

From the top: the tote is a dinosaur toes original made by my two hands from glorious cotton canvas and crochet lace trim. Below are the contents... wallet (my favorite ever) sent to me by Rachel, lip gloss, fingernail clippers, hand lotion, two pairs of sunglasses (and the third pair I left at Pop's), a boring mp3 player since my ipod decided to end its life, my phone, a pair of socks (which may seem weird, but I also have tennies in the front seat and my bike in the back in case I decide to go for a ride), some gum, a notepad (because you never know when you need to write a note and stick it to someones front door or car), and some batteries for the Wii controller. All in all, not too fancy, but then neither am I!

I know I didn't do Wishlist Wednesday! yesterday, but I'll try to do it tomorrow because it's always fun window shopping, no?

I saved the best for last. Today when I got home in the funk that I'm in, I planned to come inside, change out of my work clothes and take turns crying and reading. But then I saw something on my porch... and it was a birthday pressie! Fallon is so uber sweet - sweeter than candy - and this just makes her even sweeter. I got a beautiful journal (which I think I'll dedicate to California) and a pretty bird card, with an SNL reference no less! I love that Fallon is an SNL fan, because I can't tell you how many times I've said something about a "doo doo pie" and have people look at me like I'm nuts. I didn't sing it, Tracy Morgan did! Anyway, back to the present. It was so sweet and unexpected, and I adore the illustrations on the box, don't you?!?

So thanks Fallon, and thanks to all the blog friends I've made for just being you. If I hadn't met so many great people through blogging, I would have given it up long ago, but I seriously get so excited when I see a new comment from each of you. You make the day a little brighter! XO.

happy hatch day, dinosaur toes!

Today isn't just Valentine's Day, it's even more special. It's Flojo's (a.k.a. Miss Dinosaur Toes) 5th hatch day, like a bird birthday! She's owned me since the day Chris and I made the trip to South Carolina to pick her up when she was 3 weeks old and completely bald! We've been inseparable for these last 5 years, and I couldn't imagine my life without her! Happy hatch day, my sweet and beautiful Dinosaur Toes!

I hope you all have had a happy Valentine's Day! Did you do anything special or get any special gifts? Chris and I pigged out and got some film developed. Remember film? Before the digital age? I'll always love my digital camera, but nothing can make me abandon good old fashioned film! I made a lens hood for the camera yesterday so I could take some heart bokeh pictures, and I'll scan them and share sometime this week!
