never trust a parrot

flojo wasn't allowed to be included in these pictures because she was being punished.  instead of being sweet and kissing me when i got home, she decided to bite a little chunk out of my thumb when i picked up the camera (she hates cameras... and phones, and remotes, and vacuum cleaners, and paper bags, and hair brushes...) and left a bloody little meat flap.  so she had to go back to her cage and think about her actions.

cardigan: forever 21 // dress: ross // necklace: i made it // boots: vintage

this necklace is pretty special to me.  my grandpa always had a couple drawers filled with silly knick-knacks he'd picked up over the years.  there were giant belt buckles that he never wore, gift cards he'd been given but felt bad using, souvenir pocketknives, school pictures of his grandchildren, coins, etc.  after he died, a few of my family members and i sat down and went through those drawers.  we laughed, we cried, and we kept a few things to remind us of grandpa.  one of the things i kept was a washington, d.c. key chain.  because i don't use key chains, i decided to use the medallion as a necklace pendant, so whenever i wear it, i feel like i carry a little piece of grandpa with me.  i miss him so much, but i always have to smile when i look at that necklace and think about all of his little knick-knacks.

oh, and i found about this vintage store in san francisco that sells clothes by the pound, and i'm really thinking i need to go back 1. to go to that store, and 2. to see the parrots.  sounds like a fun trip, right nicole?

  2. I know you love Flojo, but that's the reason why I can't stand them being out of their cages. My tragus got bitten by one one time, and then he bit my lower lip. All that said, POUND OF CLOTHES is amazing!

  5. Oh no, bad flojo! Hope your thumb is okay. I love the stripes on stripes! I dont think i have the right stuff in my closet to pull this off and you know i love me some stripes! Yes, you need to come to sf. That store is pretty awesome, there are somethings though that are sold as is and not sold by the pound. And yes you need to come see the parrots! Have you seen the movie on netflix yet? When we lived in sf, we could hear them fly over our house. There is another group of them that hang out where i work in the mission and I hear them all the time. It makes me soo happy to hear them.

  7. this is my favourite thing to do... make keepsakes into jewelry. i often get people's things from relatives as well, which is such an amazing honour. i love having history in pieces... it makes me feel as though we are maintaining some sanctity of people's lives.

it's a great necklace. totally great.

(put some vaseline on your thumb!! i hope it's ok!)
